The buzz word in psychical research at present is consciousness. No one knows exactly what it is or where it lies. To say it is awareness does not seem enough. Those who think that it lies in the brain may have to think again, as the wealth of evidence gleaned from psychical research would indicate that this is not the full story. How can a deceased personality provide information, which subsequently proves to be correct, through a medium when he/she has no physical brain? While in physical form the brain certainly seems to play a large part in processing consciousness, as when people suffer from some of the ailments of memory loss, they are no longer 'themselves' with all of their personality traits and memories. However the very same people can return through a medium,,,..very quickly after physical death....and can present all of their life memories and personality traits. For those who have not studied the best of survival literature and experimentation this may seem impossible.......but it happens more often than you might think. Going back to an earlier comment...the best evidence in this area is shown when the medium and the sitter have no knowledge of the information given in a sitting, whether it be a public demonstration or a private sitting, and that information proves to be correct upon subsequent inquiries..This type of evidence, along with many other avenues of research, gives me great assurance that conscious life after death is indeed a reality. If you had asked me about this 30 years ago...I would not have believed it either....but then I had not studied the material or conducted any research!

As to what part of us survives our physical demise, i have always thought of it as our 'essence'.About a year after i announced that i wouldn't be going back to our usual church (RC), my mother took me to a Spiritualist Church. I was thirteen years old & since then, i've believed implicitly that we do go on after our bodies die.

I'm reading More Things to do When You're Dead now, having read the first book and a fair number of other books on the subject of post-mortem survival (PMS!). I teach a university course in which we spend some time on this subject. Since you regard mediumship as one of the best sources of evidence for PMS, I wonder if you have any comment on the experiences of Joe Fisher, described in his book The Siren Call of Hungry Ghosts. I found this book quite disturbing, since it is written by a "true believer" in mediumship and not by someone with a religious agenda. What struck me especially was the way in which the discarnates manifested as loving enlightened spiritual teachers--until challenged, at which point they became quite hostile and aggressive. And Fisher found this pattern repeated with each medium he investigated. I assume you're familiar with this book. What's your impression of it?

The next realm is much like this....not everyone is a good or nice person. The eastern religions know of the cosmic jokers and 'pretenders' .Nobody said this was easy. That is why I stick to actual evidence such as The Airmen who would not Die and the Cross correspondences. If we work in positivity with a good motivation we should be fine. My own work with Archie Roy with double blind testing showed a remarkable result.Do not get disheartened.....there is good evidence out there.
